Two Charged in Transient Death in Sweetwater County
Two people have been charged in the death of a transient on August 18th in Sweetwater County. According to Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, the body of a 26-year-old man was found by Union Pacific railroad personnel at 2:30am on Saturday, August 19th, and it was determined the man, identified as Eric Barrett of Arkansas, had suffered fatal trauma as a result of a fall off of a train.
Cottontail Population in Uintah Basin Remains Near Record High
With the upland game hunts right around the corner, the Division of Wildlife Resources is reporting that the cottontail rabbit population in the Uintah Basin is still near a record high though down a bit from last year.

The FBI is investigating the death of a woman in the Whiterocks area as a homicide. According to FBI Public Affairs Specialist Sandra Yi Barker, the body of a female was discovered on a road northwest of Whiterocks on Wednesday, August 23rd.
Utah National Guardsman to be Laid to Rest on Saturday
A Utah National Guardsman who was killed in Afghanistan will be laid to rest this Saturday in Monticello. 27-year-old Staff Sgt. Aaron Butler was killed in action on August 16th in Nangarhar Province.

Uintah Basin High School Rodeo Hosting Clubs at Western Park
It’s going to be a full weekend of high school rodeo with young competitors coming from all around the state of Utah. Western Park Facilities Manager Derk Hatch says the event is highly anticipated as one of the largest high school rodeos in the state bringing between 2,500 to 3,000 people to Vernal for the event.
