Ashley National Forest east zone fire program reports that so far they are having a successful spring burning season. According to Tuesday’s report, the program has been able to apply prescribed fire to approximately 1,000 acres around the Pines and Acres area of the Flaming Gorge-Vernal Ranger District. Prescribed burns are conducted in order to improve wildlife habitat, reduce excess fuels, and create resilient, healthy forests. The ecosystems of ponderosa pine are adapted to frequent fire and the prescribed burn provides that opportunity. The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache, Bridger-Teton, Sawtooth, and Shasta-Trinity National Forests sent additional fire engines and personnel to help with the spring burning in Ashley National Forest. Up next for burning is the Pipe Creek area.
