A collaborative effort between the Uintah Recreation District, DWR, and DNR is offering a unique learning experience for local students. The National Archery in the Schools Program has taken off with PE teachers becoming certified to teach along with the NASP instructors. “This program offers students lifelong skills and provides many additional benefits,” shares DWR outreach manager Tonya Kieffer. “The DWR is working to introduce NASP in schools across the state and right now we are in over 100 schools. By partnering with sportsmen’s groups and other conservation organizations, the DWR tries to minimize or eliminate the cost of equipment and instruction.” Locally, the program is funded by the Safari Club International Northeastern Chapter, providing the area program with a shooting trailer, equipment, and annual funding of maintenance and needs. This year the SCI funds will help to run the Regional NASP Archery tournament that will be held on June 1st. Contact the Uintah Recreation District to sign up.
