Every year the DWR Regional Advisory Councils meet and make recommendations to the Utah Wildlife Board about the upcoming hunting seasons, always having in mind the best management of the state wildlife populations. The councils are currently considering recommended changes for the fall hunts, including the turkey hunt as that population grows. “Hunting is still the best tool biologists have to manage wildlife populations, including turkeys,” shares upland game coordinator Jason Robinson. Two changes are being recommended to help increase the odds of taking a turkey and manage the population. “Allowing hunters to buy up to three fall turkey permits will give avid turkey hunters more chances to get into the field and hunt,” continues Robinson. “And allowing hunters to use rim fire firearms might really appeal to young hunters who don’t want to shoot a shotgun.” To learn more about recommended changes, visit
