Public Lands Package Affecting Uintah Basin Headed to President’s Desk

Years in the making, a lands package with a number of sections relevant to the Uintah Basin is on its way to President Trump’s desk. S. 47, the Natural Resources Management Act, was passed by the House of Representatives on Tuesday, moving forward a piece of legislation that expands access to public lands which Representative Rob Bishop says is considered a major win, especially for sportsmen, hunters, and fishermen across America.

On Friday, March 1, the Uintah County Library and the Literacy Commission will be celebrating with a Dr. Seuss Day party based on his book The Foot Book. Uintah County’s joint City-County meeting held on Monday welcomed members of the community as the future of the Basin Transit Authority in Uintah County was discussed. Officials representing Uintah County, Naples, Ballard, and Vernal City meet monthly, working together to address a wide variety of needs within Uintah County. The BTA services and funding was the only item for Monday’s meeting which allowed many community members the opportunity to offer input.

Uintah County Commission Tables Elected Official Salary Proposal

The proposed elected official salary adjustment was on Monday’s agenda for the Uintah County Commission but did not move forward. The Clerk/Auditor’s Office confirmed that the resolution was tabled indefinitely. The resolution caught many elected officials by surprise when the Uintah County Commission brought it forward during their February 4th meeting.

2019 Uintah Basin Science Fair Awards Wide Variety of Students and their Projects

The 2019 Uintah Basin Science Fair took place on Friday, February 15th, and the future of science never looked so bright. Students from Uintah School District, Terra Academy and The White House Academy grades 6th to 8th submitted a project in either biological science, social science, physical science or engineering. Each grade and each category had placements as well as special awards given by community businesses.
