2019 Uintah Basin Science Fair Awards Wide Variety of Students and their Projects

The 2019 Uintah Basin Science Fair took place on Friday, February 15th, and the future of science never looked so bright. Students from Uintah School District, Terra Academy and The White House Academy grades 6th to 8th submitted a project in either biological science, social science, physical science or engineering. Each grade and each category had placements as well as special awards given by community businesses. Here are the list of first place winners in each category: For engineering, the sixth grade winner was Dace Johnson for ‘Hot Outside’, seventh grade was Noni Harward for ‘Build a Bridge and Get Over It’ and eighth grade was Alexa Mckee for ‘Mars Exploration’. In the category of Biological Sciences, the sixth grade winner was David Anderson for ‘You Run What You Eat’, the seventh grade was Annabelle Johnson for ‘Simple vs. Complex Carbs’ and the eighth grade was Shelby Accuttoroop for ‘My Bread’s Alive’. For the Social Sciences, the sixth grade winner was Arina Johnson for ‘Does Chewing Gum Help You Concentrate on Tests?’, the seventh grade was Emily Caldwell for ‘Does a Mint Plus Math Equal an A+’ and then for eighth grade Annalese Baumgardner for ‘The Brain-Body Connection’. The final category of Physical Science had the following winners: sixth grade Julie Calmes ‘Stain, Stain Go Away’, seventh grade McKenzie White for ‘Air Ball’ and eighth grade Tori Barrus for ‘Which is the Quicker Picker-Upper?’ The overall winner for best science project, who won a laptop, was sixth grader Julie Calmes.
