Uintah County Thanks All Involved in Recovery Effort

The Uintah County Commission expressed appreciation during Monday’s Commission meeting for the many people and agencies that helped with the recovery effort on the Green River last week. After a month of searching, the bodies of 3 Vernal men who had been missing since May 22nd were recovered from the river about a quarter mile from the Jensen bridge.

According to Vernal Chamber Director Joel Brown, parade organizers received confirmation that not only will the parade have a fly over this year but there will be two F-35 Lightning from Hill Air Force Base.

Power Outage and Dirty Water in Vernal City

It was a series of unfortunate events Monday in the Vernal area. According to Rocky Mountain Power, the afternoon power outage that affected much of the Vernal area was caused by a car running into a power pole. The accident took place on Highway 40 around 1700 West. The car hit a pole and knocked the circuit out.

Opposition to Oil and Gas Lease Possibilities

It’s the usual round of opposition to newly announced oil and gas lease possibilities in Duchesne and Uintah County. The Bureau of Land Management released their environmental assessment this month on 64 parcels nominated for a competitive oil and gas lease sale in December. 

Fire Restrictions Announced for Eastern Utah

High fire danger has prompted fire restrictions for eastern Utah. As of Friday, June 26th, all State, BLM, and National Park Service lands in Uintah, Duchesne and Daggett County are placed under restrictions. Dinosaur National Monument is also included.

FBI Investigating Homicide on Uintah-Ouray Reservation

FBI Investigating Homicide on Uintah-Ouray Reservation

The FBI is investigating a possible murder that took place on the Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation on June 20th. According to FBI representative Sandra Yi Barker, 19-year-old Deland Anston Cornpeach was arrested and is being held in the Duchesne County Jail for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as part of the homicide investigation.
