Give Em’ Health: Fireworks Safety and Restrictions

Fireworks safety is a top priority this year as fire danger is especially high. Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond says every year fires are caused locally due to fireworks often because they are lit in dry, grassy areas or when wind carries embers or aerial fireworks to neighboring fields. While it is legal to buy fireworks already, it is illegal to set them off. Fireworks can only be set off between July 1st and 7th from 11am to 11pm except on July 4th they can be set off until midnight. Raymond also says many children and adults are injured each year using fireworks. From lighting fireworks indoors to allowing children to use fireworks unsupervised, people are injured every year. Be careful, shares Raymond. Even sparklers require caution as they burn at 1200 degrees. Always have adult supervision and keep a bucket of water nearby. Finally, be sure to only fire off legal fireworks. “If they’re not sold here you can’t light them off here,” says Raymond. Also remember fireworks are banned in the unincorporated parts of the county.
