What Should Vernal City Do With The Iconic Green T-Rex?

A famous local with a large wardrobe and fantastic prop collection is the topic of a new survey that Vernal City is asking the public to take. The large T-Rex that greets travelers on Highway 40 near 800 West has had a pause on his decades of dressing up in costumes and Vernal City wants to work with the public in making decisions about the famous dinosaur’s future. George and Helen Millecam built the iconic T-Rex around 1969 as a companion to other dinosaur statues they had at their Dine-A-Ville Motel where the current downtown Mountain America Credit Union now sits. The 40-foot pink version of Dinah was once there with the green dinosaur but became Vernal’s greeter on the east end of town in 1999. In 2014, Dinah received a makeover complete with a reinforced frame and new candy-pink coat of paint. Now it is the T-Rex statue’s turn…or it could be depending on public support. “The results of the survey will be compiled to assist with future decisions,” shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. “Current decisions include T-Rex’s state of disrepair, funding source for the repair, safety of its location, and costumes. The iconic dino has weathered many years and is in need of repair. The process to repair T-Rex is estimated to cost $30,000 dollars.” Let your opinion be heard and please link to the survey through this story on BasinNow.com or on the City website.
