Vernal Equinox Means It’s The First Day of Spring

Spring is here! Well technically at least. The Vernal Equinox occurs on March 20th or 21st each year and represents the moment when the Earth’s axis is in position to deliver an equal amount of daylight and darkness. This year, the moment in which spring officially begins is today at 3:24pm. With snow still on the ground and some still in the forecast it may be hard to get in the spirit of spring just yet but one of the hallmarks of spring is rain showers and those are expected this week along with increased cloud cover across eastern Utah and western Colorado. On Monday, those spring showers will become widespread across the region with rain in the valleys. The intensity will slow down before the next, stronger system begins to impact the region. As a result, widespread showers will return Tuesday afternoon and continue through at least Wednesday evening. Snow is also in the forecast but is expected primarily in the mountains.
