Annette McRae, the Forward Party candidate for Utah Senate District 20, has called on the Utah Public Service Commission to reject any attempt by PacifiCorp to recover out-of-state wildfire liability from Utah ratepayers. This is in connection with the company’s Wildland Fire Cost and Compliance Report for Calendar Year 2025, filed June 1, 2026. “This is not an anti-utility position. I am pro-grid. I am pro-energy. The Basin runs on a reliable grid and so do the homes, schools, ranches, and small businesses across SD20,” shares McRae. “But there is a difference between investing in the system that serves Utah and asking Utah families to subsidize liability that belongs in Portland or Sacramento. The Public Service Commission has already said no twice. Senate District 20 is asking it to say no again.” McRae is calling on the county councils of Summit, Wasatch, Uintah, and Daggett to formally petition the Utah Public Service Commission opposing any cost-recovery mechanism that shifts out-of-state wildfire liability onto Utah ratepayers. Public comments can be submitted through the Utah Public Service Commission at psc.utah.gov.
