The Sesquicentennial Colorado River Exploring Expedition is in full swing, with members floating the same passage that John Wesley Powell did in his expedition. As part of the celebration, the SCREE has put together an expanded art exhibit entitled “Contemporary Views of the Arid West: People, Places and Spaces”. The art show is made up of several exhibits across multiple museums in various states. A portion of the exhibit is now at the Uintah Heritage Museum
through June 22th.
Among the mediums used in the various works are oil and watercolor painting, woodcut relief prints, cast and laser-cut sculpture, and digital and wet-plate photography. Also as part of the celebration is the “Journey’s with Powell’s Journal”, where excerpts of John Wesley Powell’s journal is read on location.
This Saturday, June 1st
there will be two readings, one
at 10am
at the Gates of Lodore Boat Ramp. Following that reading
at 11am
is a nature trail hike. The second reading is
at 1pm
at the John Jarvie Historic Site. This reading is part of Jarvie Fest and takes place at the speakers tent.
