Yesterday was Day 107 for a man walking across America to raise money for his local children’s hospital and it was spent in Vernal. He shared a little about his mission with Evans Family Media: “My name's Elliot and I am walking across America from Nashville, Tennessee to Seattle, Washington. I started at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. My goal is to raise $20,000 donations for my local children's hospital through a program called Extra Life. All of the money raised goes directly to getting kids video game systems and entertainment while they are in the hospital. I am currently on Day 107 and have walked 1600 miles. We have raised just over $4300.” His stop in Vernal was a memorable one as several things came together for him that he is very grateful for. Hibbett welcomed him to pick out a brand new pair of shoes for free, which he says was badly needed, and the people at Aaron’s Rent Center made a phone call to hook Elliot up with a stay at the Quality Inn in Vernal. “The first thing I've noticed about walking Vernal and the Uintah Basin is the people,” says Elliot. “Everybody seems to have a smile on their face and waves at me as I walk by. The generosity and kindness, it’s notable. The second thing is the landscape, the colorful rock layers and the mesas. I've never seen anything quite like it.” Follow Elliot’s journey on ‘Rolling on Foot’ on Facebook. He’s heading towards Roosevelt on Tuesday, continuing west through the Uintah Basin this week.
