Critical fire weather conditions are expected in northeast Utah and northwest Colorado today and all are urged to exercise caution to prevent wildfires. National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for most of Uintah County, the eastern side of Daggett County and northwest Colorado. The area is expected to experience gusty winds and relative humidity of 9 to 14 percent. The warning states that “any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly [and] outdoor burning is not recommended.” The Warning is in effect for these areas from 1 to 7pm on June 4th. Utah Forestry, Fire and State Lands reports that Utah has seen 205 total wildfires this season with 173 human-caused and 17 started by lightning. The total amount of wildfires is down slightly from this time last year with over 8,400 acres burned statewide so far. Above normal temperatures through the end of the week will continue to dry fuels.
