KNEU 1250Once Basin residents have filled their bellies with turkey, it is time to celebrate Holly Days! One of the events that continues year after year is the Parade of Lights. This year the Grand Marshals will be Vance and Sonja Norton. The prolific couple have been lifelong residents of the Vernal area.
Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office has announced that the body of 26-year-old Chenoa L. Plank was recovered from Strawberry Reservoir Sunday afternoon. Authorities have shared that Plank and 24-year-old Benjamin Magalis were fishing near Chicken Creek West on Monday, November 12th, when their canoe capsized. “The temperature of the water was about 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Chenoa’s dog, Hazel, was wearing a life jacket and was rescued… Sadly, Chenoa and Benjamin perished in the water.
Generosity overflowed during the Enchanted Forest charity auction held at the Crossroads Community Center in Roosevelt. The dinner and auction was held Thursday evening, with 21 trees raising $120,000 dollars for local charities and causes. Duchesne County Chamber Director Irene Hansen says there was another $30,000 dollars raised in tree sponsorships and it’s expected an additional $10,000 dollars on all the silent auction items.
The Search and Rescue operation for a missing 74-year-old Rock Springs man has been officially suspended. Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office announced last week that all search efforts for Terry Meador proved unsuccessful. Meador was reported missing on October 25th after he failed to return from a solo hunting trip south of Rock Springs. His unoccupied vehicle was found badly stuck about 3 miles north of the summit of Pine Mountain.
What would life be like for citizens of the Uintah Basin if they could be taught college courses from the best educators in the world? That realization is just a library card away with the new video courses offered through Uintah County Library. The company is called The Great Courses. They travel the world finding the top 1% of college professors in the world, selected entirely on their ability to teach.
Christmas is around the corner and the Roosevelt Police Department is preparing to sponsor this year’s Shop with a Cop event on Saturday, December 8th. The Shop with a Cop event has local law enforcement personnel, with other volunteers, sharing a wonderful Christmas experience with children who might not otherwise have much this Christmas season.
To anyone who was on or around Strawberry Reservoir between November 12th and 16th, the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help. Anyone who may have picked up a gray colored life jacket is asked to call Wasatch County Dispatch. Several items were innocently picked up out of the water this week that could potentially change a missing person search in a significant way.
Have you ever had the desire to learn how to hunt waterfowl? The Division of Wildlife Resources is hosting a free waterfowl-hunting clinic on Saturday, November 17th, at the Vernal Game Farm. The clinic will run from 10am to 1pm and is open to all ages. Some of the things individuals will learn include properly identifying waterfowl species, the set up and use of a variety of blinds, how to call ducks and geese, how to handle a hunting dog, ways to arrange a spread of decoys and shooting a shotgun.

It tells a fantastic story of family and determination. The acting is spectacular and every actor gives 110%. Mindy Palmer, the director of the show says, “The new auditorium is amazing. Newsies has some of the best musical theatre songs ever written. If you don’t know it, come and find out why you love it… because you will. The stage set, lighting, and complete performance is amazing.” Shows are at 7:00 pm and ticket prices are from $9.50 – $13.50. The matinee show at 2:00 pm on Saturday is half price ($5.50 – $ 9.50). Be sure to bring Christmas magic to your day by taking a walk in the Enchanted Forest. The annual charitable event in Roosevelt starts today. “2018 is shaping up to be another amazing event!” shares Duchesne County Chamber Director Irene Hansen.
Tragedy struck for a Roosevelt family on Wednesday and the community is rallying around them and asking for donations. The ‘Adams Family Fire Relief Fund’ is set up on GoFundMe.com where monetary donations are being gathered. The family is also in need of physical donations. Items needed right away include kitchen appliances and utensils, young children’s toys, books, blankets, winter coats, gloves, and clothing for three boys ages 13, 10, and 6 and an 8-year-old girl.
