Recently Uintah Basin Medical Center was named a 2020 Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
South Salt Lake Police Department is warning Utah residents to be on the lookout for a man known to visit the Uintah Basin and considered armed and dangerous. “On December 4th, at approximately 6:30am, at the Maverick gas station at 3260 South West Temple in South Salt Lake City, a 28 year old victim was shot in the face,” shares the police department.
A public meeting is being held tonight as Ashley National Forest develops a management plan for the Ashley Karst National Recreation and Geologic Area (NRGA) in Uintah County.
This week is Uintah Basin Technical College’s first annual Giving Week, a chance to give money for student scholarships. In a press release, the TriCounty Health Department has announced a department change to the operation hours. Starting December 28th, 2020 TriCounty Health will open Monday through Thursday from 7:30am to 5:30pm and then Friday 8am to 5pm.
A Vernal woman has been sentenced 25 years to life in prison for the 2019 death of her young step-daughter. 25-year-old Mckenley Yadon (also known as Mckenley Stout) was arrested and booked into the Uintah County Jail on May 23rd, 2019 for First Degree Felony Aggravated Murder and Second Degree Felony Child Abuse in connection with the death of 3-year-old Arianna Stout on March 14th, 2019. Court documents paint a chilling account of the events that resulted in the young girl’s death.
It was a devastating week for two Vernal families after suffering unrelated house fires a day apart on December 3rd and 4th. According to Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, the first one took place December 3rd in the early morning at about 12:30am in the Painted Hills area.
Uintah School District released information to changes to the grab and go meals program. Effective Monday, December 14th, Uintah High School, Uintah Middle School, and Vernal Middle School will no longer be locations to pick up grab-n-go meals because of consistently low levels of participation.

Uintah Basin Healthcare shares that the typical flu season runs October through May and a yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months old and older in order to protect against the flu.
Uintah County Library is holding a Virtual Family Christmas Tree Decorating contest. Trees can be entered in one of three categories: Traditional, Themed or Crafted. A traditional tree is decorated in typical Christmas colors with no real theme or concept.
