KNEU 1250Daggett County Sheriff Jerry R. Jorgensen has resigned, citing a desire to help the County move forward in the process with the Utah Department of Corrections to return inmates to the Daggett County Jail. A press release from the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office states that Sheriff Jorgensen resigned Sunday, April 23rd.
After failing to get enough votes in the 2015 election, Proposition 1 is being considered for an upcoming ballot in Uintah County. City officials and County Commissioners met on Monday and discussed the updated law regarding Prop 1.
Uintah County Commissioners will be utilizing a new service offered through the Utah Association of Counties (UAC) aimed at helping counties manage appeals to Centrally Assessed Taxes. County Services Support, Inc. is a 501-C4 corporation that will cost the county $2000 dollars annually in exchange for resources and support as counties have companies appeal their centrally assessed taxes.
The Division of Wildlife Resources is always thinking ahead to the next hunt and some changes are being recommended for the statewide general pheasant hunt. According to an announcement this week, it’s being recommended that there be just one general pheasant hunt that would start the first Saturday of November and end on the firstSunday of December.
New data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Utah climbing even higher in national job growth rankings. Utah now ranks Number 1 in both total job growth in the U.S. at 3.2 percent and Number 1 for private sector job growth at 3.5 percent. Unemployment is also low at 3.1 percent.
A fishery in the Uintah Basin has big changes ahead as biologists aim at creating the best bluegill fishery in the region. According to the Division of Wildlife Resources, there was a time that Pelican Lake was among the best bluegill fishing waters in the West but the lake’s water quality has lead to the fish’s decline over the years.
Maximum releases continue from Flaming Gorge Reservoir and are anticipated to remain at this level through the remainder of the spring runoff season. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, releases are currently at 8,600 cfs with maximum power plant capacity and two full bypass tubes.
Senator Mike Lee took on multiple topics during his visit to the Uintah Basin last week. During his stop in Vernal, Senator Lee spoke at length about the damage that over-regulation of the energy industry has on the local economy.
The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office has put some teeth behind spring cleanup regulations. “Everyone is excited to get out and get things cleaned up but please utilize the proper facilities to discard yard waste and materials,” shares the Sheriff’s Office.
The Uintah County Library is committed to their mission to “support people of all ages in their quests to learn, grow and discover.” For the young learners, however, this quest must be done with an adult in tow. According to Library Director Sam Passey, spring break was a busy and exciting time at the library that warrants a friendly but firm reminder to parents and caregivers.
With the snow melted and weather improving it is cleanup time around the Basin. Both Uintah and Duchesne County’s spring clean up is ongoing and will be assisted by free landfill week coming up April 22nd through the 29th.
Sometimes instincts to help have the opposite effect, even in rescuing animals. The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office issued an advisory on Wednesday concerning well-intended people taking sheep dogs from their post while on duty.
