You know about the epic journey of pioneers on the Oregon Trail but a modern journey for a great cause has a play on the name. The ‘Organ Trail’ is a charity bike ride of Mark Scotch, a man riding from Los Angeles to Denver to bring attention to the need for and miracle of liver and kidney donations and he will travel through the Uintah Basin next week. In fact, his schedule is to arrive in Hanna on Monday, Vernal on Tuesday, and head into Colorado on Wednesday, expecting to arrive at his Denver destination just a week later on May 6th after 32 days of cycling a total of 1,896 miles. During Mark’s journey about 10 days ago, he made a stop in Phoenix to visit a very special young lady. At 67 years old in 2023, Mark donated a portion of his liver that was found to be a match for a seriously ill 9-month-old baby girl named Selena. Mark was able to see with his own eyes that Selena is now a happy and healthy 2-year-old. This ride on the Organ Trail is just the latest for Mark and his wife Lynn. The Organ Trail is a series of long-distance bike rides dedicated to raising awareness about the critical need for living kidney and liver donors. Mark and Lynn Scotch hope to inspire others to become living donors and help reduce the number of people waiting for life-saving transplants.
