If you’d like to catch a fish in Utah’s beautiful outdoors but you don’t have a fishing license, Free Fishing Day is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. The DWR has announced that Free Fishing Day will be held on Saturday, June 12th, and northeastern Utah has amazing spots to try.
As of last report from the Ashley National Forest Flaming Gorge Ranger District: Forest Road 221 as it enters the Northwest end of the district (through the Birch Creek drainage) is washed out and difficult to pass. Sheep Creek Lake is accessible with a 2wd vehicle.
Before the school years come to a close local school districts are sharing their thanks for the employees that have announced their retirement. In Uintah School District, there are 12 employees retiring after 30 or more years of employment, 8 employees retiring with between 20 and 30 years of employment, and 4 employees with less than 20 years of employment.
Roosevelt City shared on Monday that construction on Roosevelt’s Lagoon Street will once again be extended. Dominion Energy crews have been working on the project installing pipeline but plan to take off Friday and Monday for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
There is going to be a total, meaning 100%, lunar eclipse happening tonight. It is the first in the last two and a half years. Dinosaur National Monument has shared some information to help the Uintah Basin to enjoy this event.
There is plenty to see and do here in the Uintah Basin and as such there are few people that have seen or done it all. In an effort to get the community and people visiting the area engaged in the variety of places to explore, the Uintah County Travel and Tourism Department is offering free day trips every Wednesday starting on June 9th.
Getting outdoors is about to top many people’s priority list and the DWR has an important reminder as you find adventures to be had in the Uintah Basin. “As you are out hiking and camping this summer, don’t be surprised if you come across a deer fawn or an elk calf during late May or early June,” shares the announcement.
School is almost out and Uintah County Library is ready to help fill the time with summer activities. ‘Songs & Stories’ will be Wednesdays at 10am and 11am. ‘Lego Club’ is Wednesdays from 4 to 5pm. ‘Yoga Stories’ is Thursdays at 10am.
Efforts continue in Utah and beyond to combat the war against American petroleum, something that many state and local leaders are engaged in. Duchesne County Sheriff Travis Tucker issued a press release on May 22nd reporting that on May 21st, at approximately 7:00 pm, inmate John Mooney was found lifeless in his cell from what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries. Life saving measures were unsuccessful and he passed away. John was a 54-year-old Duchesne County resident who was booked into the Jail on April 30th.
There was a substantial loss of property in a fire on Friday in Uintah County. The smoke could be seen for several miles from the structure fire in the area of 2500 South and 3200 East, the structure being described as a tractor shed.
A road tripping F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter jet made its way through the Uintah Basin as an Oversized load on Highway 40 on Friday. The F-117 left a military test range in Nevada on Thursday and was scheduled to arrive at its new home at the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum near Ashland, Nebraska by Sunday.
