New Passing Lane Approved For US-191 Indian Canyon Construction Project

An addition to the Indian Canyon construction project is expected to really pay off for travelers in the long run. UDOT announced on Tuesday that a new half-mile passing lane has been approved for southbound traffic between mileposts 267.5 and 268, just before the summit. “As crews began widening this section, the team saw an opportunity to add a passing lane that will give drivers a safer place to pass slower-moving vehicles on this steep uphill section of the canyon,” shares the announcement. “After coordinating with UDOT, the team determined that adding the lane now, while crews are already working in the area, would be more efficient and cost-effective than coming back to build it later.” It’s estimated that the added work will extend the project schedule by about 3 to 4 weeks. While construction was originally expected to finish in October, it is now anticipated to finish by the end of November.
