A Uintah County man was arrested this month in a case involving alleged child rape and sexual abuse of multiple victims. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, child forensic interviews were conducted at the Vernal Children’s Justice Center of at least three victims ages 9-years-old and younger. 62-year-old Scott Brian Spaulding was arrested on January 25th and is charged with Rape of a Child, Object Rape of a Child, and 2 counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child, all 1st Degree Felony charges. When interviewed about the accusations by law enforcement on January 25th, Spaulding admitted that he told a witness on the phone that he had been inappropriate with one of the victims but then denied to the investigator that he had actually done anything inappropriate. He said maybe he had touched the child accidentally while wrestling. When investigators asked specifically about one of the incidents of sexual abuse, Spaulding reportedly paused and said, “I’m pretty sure I didn’t do that.” Then he asked for an attorney. Spaulding was originally being held without bail but was ordered for release with conditions on January 29th. His initial appearance is scheduled in 8th District Court on February 3rd.
