Colorado doesn’t want wolves, according to a report in goHUNT magazine. Around 65 western Colorado residents, comprised of many ranchers, hunters, and farmers, learned more about the wolf reintroduction movement during the First Conservation District’s annual meeting and banquet held earlier this month in Moffat County. The opinion by the group as a whole was that wolves are not welcome in Moffat County or beyond. Groups like the Sierra Club are pushing the issue of having both Mexican and gray wolves reintroduced to the state of Colorado bringing push back from farmers and ranchers in western Colorado and beyond. Wolves are already protected under the Endangered Species Act and a 2016 Colorado Parks and Wildlife resolution orders the public to leave wolves alone as long as they are not causing harm. While there have been some confirmed sightings of gray wolves within the state of Colorado the reintroduction would increase their numbers. Those opposed to the reintroduction point to the increase of livestock deaths in other states as well as the impact to moose, elk, and deer herds.
