Evans Family Media is providing the opportunity to get educated ahead of the upcoming primary election through the Meet The Candidate Radio Series. Travis Tucker, the incumbent Duchesne County Sheriff, was the guest on the May 25th program. Sheriff Tucker started in law enforcement in Duchesne County in 1995 and has spent his 27 years in law enforcement primarily with Duchesne County but spent a few years with Roosevelt City as well. When asked why he hopes to serve a second term, Sheriff Tucker shared that he feels he was preparing to be Sheriff for a long time and he would like more time to finish the things he’s been working on. He shared that during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic he and his staff worked together on policies to keep everyone safe and were one of very few jails that did not experience a major outbreak in the jail or among the Sheriff’s Office staff. When asked what has been done to prevent further tragedy in the jail like that of the highly publicized overdose death, Sheriff Tucker said that since that terribly tragic death, a medical wing has been built in the facility. They also increased the nursing staff from 1 LPN to 3 Registered Nurses and an LPN working with local Doctors. Sheriff Tucker’s interview also covers recent robberies, state inmates, and employee retention.
