McCoy Flats Campground Grand Opening This Thursday

The grand opening of the McCoy Flats Campground is happening this week and the public is invited. BLM Public Affairs Specialist Ashley Snipes provided some background on this new site. NEPA and pre-planning was completed in 2024. Site Layout and Design was completed in the Summer of 2025. Construction began in Fall 2025 and main construction took place Winter of 2025-Summer 2026. The new amenities include restrooms, picnic tables, and shade structures, while keeping visitors close to the McCoy Flats Mountain Bike Trail System and nearby OHV opportunities, including the Josie Mosie Trail. The campground will include 23 sites: 20 mixed-use sites for RVs, vans, tents, and other camping setups, plus three walk-in sites and campsites with expanded access for visitors with disabilities. Construction was partially funded through the Utah Outdoor Recreation Initiative, with matching support from the Bureau of Land Management and the Foundation for America’s Public Lands. “The investment reflects a shared effort to improve recreation infrastructure, support responsible use of public lands, and help protect the surrounding landscape as visitation continues,” shares Snipes. The public is invited to celebrate at the official grand opening on September 3rd from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ribbon cutting is planned for noon, and the event will feature an open house with local outdoor recreation organizations, and a bike raffle provided by Uintah County Tourism.
