Public lands is a hot topic in the Uintah Basin and beyond and a man running for Salt Lake City Mayor is shining a major light on the topic in the form of a lawsuit over public lands access. Dr. Rainer Huck and his co-plaintiff John Anderson issued a press release this week over their filing of the American Public Lands Equal Access Lawsuit in Federal District Court against the Bureau of Land Management. “I believe that public access to public lands is a critical issue,” shares Rainer Huck. “We cannot allow our most vulnerable people to be shut out of these national treasures. I have been fighting against the BLM’s closure agenda for 40 years during which time motor assisted access has dwindled from 95 percent to less than 4 percent now.” The lawsuit is seeking redress for the loss of access for aged, handicapped, disabled, and others and “asks the courts to affirm the right of even the most vulnerable citizens to access the public lands owned by all Americans.”
