Jordan Mathis spoke at the Vernal Chamber luncheon on Tuesday concerning the downward trend of active cases of COVID-19. Tri-County Health area which consists of Uintah, Daggett and Duchesne counties is seeing a decline in cases and the State of Utah over all has plateaued. Those in attendance asked about the COVID testing of sewer. Tri-County tests the sewers once a week and chart the results. Interestingly, the sewer testing reveals that trends in the virus can be seen prior to the testing of individuals. This can alert the community and help them to be prepared if the need arises. Sewer testing is confirming the declining trend of the COVID virus, explained Mathis, who also shared an interesting fact that sewage is tested after it goes through the treatment plant and tests have shown no virus present. Good to know that our sewer treatments are so effective.
