A human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in the TriCounty Health District. The Utah Department of Health reported this week that there have been 28 new positive mosquito pools in Utah bringing the total to 108 so far this year. Two new human cases were reported this week, one from the Bear River District and one from the TriCounty Health District. That brings the total human cases for the state to four this season, one of which resulted in death. Of the four human cases, three had neurological symptoms. This year is still thankfully more mild than last year which had over double the instances of positive mosquito pools and human cases by this time. Not all local mosquitos are the breed that carry West Nile Virus but of the species that do, they only bite from dusk to dawn. The best thing to do to prevent West Nile Virus is to use a product with DEET and to cover up with long sleeve shirts and pants when out after sunset.
