‘Hello, Dolly!’ Cast Shuffle Keeps Fantastic Show Going While Lead Recovers

The show must go on, right?!? What if prior to showtime one of the leads is rushed in for an emergency surgery? Well the folks at Outlaw Trail Theater have proven that with enough talent and teamwork the show can indeed still go on, at least it did last Thursday. While everyone’s heart and concern was with their castmate, Joel Benedicto, a plan was hatched and Director Andrew Bentley dusted off his dance shoes, warmed up his singing pipes, and took to the stage in Benedicto’s role of Cornelius Hackl. Thanks to some last minute creative cue cards and the professional raw talent of Bentley and the entire cast, a fantastic show was delivered! While Bentley’s performance was a success, it was still considered a temporary solution. Further miracles followed as Carter Pierce, cast in the role of Ambrose Kemper, stepped up to take on the role of Cornelius Hackl while Cade Marshall, a member of the ensemble, stepped up to take on the role of Ambrose Kemper. “They had 24 hours to learn the new roles, lines, choreography and blocking,” shares Outlaw Trail Board President Jay Haslem. “They have jumped in and have not looked back. Many audience members were unable to recognize that anything had changed in the lineup. I have been so impressed by the professionalism and talent of this cast. When you replace an actor, it is not only the new actor that has to adjust, but everyone on the stage must help that new actor in his or her moments, and interactions. This cast has dealt with the changes with perfection. We could not have asked for more.” It is hoped that Benedicto will return to the stage, with a Doctor’s approval, by Wednesday. In the meantime, get your tickets at www.outlawtrailtheater.org to witness first hand the magic.
