Give Em’ Health: TriCounty Health’s Environmental Lab

by | May 31, 2018 | News | 0 comments

Among the services provided by TriCounty Health Department is the testing of water samples by their Environmental Lab. Representative Eric Larson explains the different forms of testing performed. Every public water system has to take a certain number of routine samples each month to check for bacteria in Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah Counties. Every swimming pool that is open to the public is also required to have monthly samples to ensure the water is safe for swimming. From May to October, samples are taken at the lakes used for water recreation activities to test for bacteria levels. This includes Starvation, Steinaker, Red Fleet, Flaming Gorge, and Big Sandwash Reservoirs. This year, TriCounty is also sampling Matt Warner and Calder Reservoirs to watch for algae blooms. Random checks of surface water samples are also performed as either part of a complaint from the public or from landowners concerned that their waterbody may be contaminated. Learn more at
