The public’s fascination with true crime, cold cases and the general happenings of criminology is well established. Sometimes we forget though that there are cases that are close to home. A recent KUTV article spotlights the case of a missing man named Steven Willard Anderson. He has been missing since June 3rd, 2004. He was from Murray and supposedly left to drive to Flaming Gorge to paint the family cabin. Going to the cabin was something the family looked forward to as their getaway. Anderson left his father’s home on June 3rd to go paint the deck. His father tried calling his cell and the cabin to check on him and after six days reported him missing to Unified Police. The police report states that Stevens’ father had traveled to the cabin himself on June 5th and found nothing. Phone records show that no phone calls had been made or received since the day he had left for the cabin. Also the dark green 2001 Toyota Sequoia Steven was driving was never found. Sadly, according to the Bureau of Criminal Identification, as of mid-March Anderson is just one of 1,271 active missing persons cases in Utah.
