Thanks to a UCAIR grant awarded in 2020, TriCounty Health Department in Vernal now has an operating electric vehicle charging station. According to Tuesday’s press release, the charging station takes about an hour to charge an electric vehicle. “We are happy to have the support of the community and would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for joining TriCounty to celebrate the opening of this EV station in Vernal,” shares Kirk Benge, Director of Tricounty Health Department. “This started as a desire to add electric vehicle options to our fleet and we are pleased that it will also be available as a community asset, and is one small step toward better air quality in the basin.” The charging station works with most types of electric vehicles and while there is a card reader installed for payment, the charging station is currently free for unlimited public use. While a second charging station is planned for the Roosevelt TriCounty Health location, the charging unit has been delayed and that project is not yet complete.
