Duchesne County History Center Utilizing Social Media In Labeling Of Archives

The Duchesne County History Center may physically just be a room at the Duchesne Branch Library but thanks to technology it has made its way onto the screens and into the lives of many in the Uintah Basin. Duchesne County Library System Director Daniel Mauchley explains that the Uintah Basin History Center Facebook page really took off during COVID and now the center consistently posts historic photos to the page in order to have the public’s help in identifying individuals, locations, and events. “This shows how social media can crowdsource a lot of information,” shares Mauchley. “We want to leverage it while we can. This history needs gathered soon before there is no one who can tell us who these people are.” The end goal, says Mauchley, is to collect all the data and have it hosted on the University of Utah server so that this history of families and faces in the Uintah Basin is never lost. All are invited to visit and ‘Like’ the Duchesne County History Center Facebook page. Be sure to view the pictures and share them with those who may remember these faces and places.
