DWR Promotes Turkey Hunting Permit

The Division of Wildlife Resources is urging those eager for a hunting fix to try the thrill of hunting turkeys in Utah. The general statewide hunt starts on April 28th for those that are ages 17 and younger and the general hunt opens for all hunters on May 1st. The statewide hunt provides unique advantages, shares upland game coordinator Jason Robinson. First, the general hunt runs for more than four weeks compared to the usual three for the limited-entry hunt. Second, there will be better access with more areas to hunt because roads are drier in May and there’s less snow. Third, Robinson says May is the perfect time to hunt turkeys because they are still gobbling and you have more time to be in the field at the right time. The final advantage, says Robinson, is hunters consistently report that the spring hunts feel less crowded. To learn more about the upcoming general turkey hunt, visit
