The great outdoors is part of what makes the Uintah Basin a special place and in recent years that includes the increased popularity of ATV recreation. The topic of ATV trails was on the minds of Duchesne County public officials this month as they agreed to pursue funding for ATV trail improvements. During the Duchesne County Commission meeting, Planning and Zoning Assistant Director Mike Gottfredson stated that an application has been submitted to the Fiscal Incentive Grant program through the Utah Division of Recreation. The application proposed to use grant funding awarded for the purchase of ATV trail improvement equipment, including two ATVs, an ATV timber trailer, a utility trailer for transportation, and trail construction and maintenance tools and equipment. There are plans to widen trails in the Ashley National Forest in Duchesne County from 50 inches to 60 inches. The Commission unanimously offered their support.
