SkyWest Takes Flight at Vernal Regional Airport
Years of construction and projects wrapped up this month as Vernal officially welcomed United Airlines, operating through SkyWest Airlines, to the Vernal Regional Airport on Tuesday. Local officials and airport staff and management bid Boutique Air farewell on Monday before their final flight, expressing their appreciation for all Boutique Air has done to serve the Vernal area for the past two and a half years.
UBTech Hosts Conference of Utah Tech Schools
UBTech welcomed over 350 guests from tech schools around the state during a conference held at the Vernal campus earlier this month. According to a UBTech press release, UBTech was chosen for the conference because this year marks the 50th anniversary of technical education in the state of Utah and it all started in the Uintah Basin.
Meet the Candidate Follow Up Interview: Mitt Romney for U.S. Senate
Mitt Romney facilitated a second interview with the KVEL studio on Tuesday morning closing out this campaign season’s run of the Meet the Candidate Forum. Romney is running for U.S. Senate. The Meet the Candidate Forum started on May 7th and has been a source for locals this campaign season to hear from many local and state candidates.
Outlaw Trail Theater’s Into the Woods Opens to Excited Crowd
The stage production of Into the Woods is a fan favorite for both avid and casual theatergoers and Outlaw Trail Theater is providing everyone in between with the opportunity to see it for the first or hundredth time. The show opened Monday night at the Outlaw Trail Amphitheater at Western Park to an excited crowd. The award winning musical is based on Grimm fairy tales, with a twist.
Flaming Gorge Boating Accident Victim Identified; Additional Details
The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the victim in a boating accident on Flaming Gorge over the weekend. 48-year-old Lance Heninger of North Ogden drowned after a mishap occurred about 3 ½ miles southeast of Buckboard Marina. According to Sheriff Mike Lowell, Heninger and two companions were competing in the Ducks Unlimited Fishing Derby on Saturday and had last been seen fishing in the Big Bend area.
30th Year for Ladies Only Josie Shoot this Saturday
A long standing community tradition will continue this weekend thanks to the Division of Wildlife Resources. The annual Josie Shoot is a .22 shooting competition for women of all ages inspired by local legend Josie Bassett Morris, a gun slinging, independent woman of the wild, wild west. One year ago, the 29th Annual Josie Shoot was feared to be the final event after Carole Jackson, the woman who chaired the event for over 2 decades, had passed away the prior December. Her family hosted the event one final time in her honor, understanding that it may be the end of an era. Recognizing its value, the Division of Wildlife Resources opted to take it over, partnering with Safari Club International of Northeastern Utah. As of Monday, 50 ladies were signed up with time for many more to join them. The event is Saturday, June 30th, from 8am to noon at the Vernal Rod and Gun Club. Tabiona Girl Inspires; Family Helps Others Through Blog
A Tabiona girl is inspiring others by just being herself. Hanna Strebel is just like other young adults her age. She loves to dance, model, spend time with her family and friends, and has dreams of being famous. Hanna also has Down Syndrome and her family uses a blog and social media to share their journey and provide support for other families who may be unsure of what the future holds with their own children with down syndrome.
Tips During the Season of High Fire Danger
Fire danger continues to be high. Officials remind recreators that propane stoves can be used by dispersed campers as an alternative to campfires to reduce the risk of sparking a wildfire and to remember to have a bucket and shovel with you, as you cut your firewood this summer.
Fire Restrictions Announced for Northeastern Utah
Fire restrictions have been implemented in northeastern Utah. As of Monday, June 25th, all State, BLM, and National Park Service lands are under fire restrictions due to forecasted weather conditions coupled with extremely dry conditions and heavy vegetation. The complete list includes the following areas: State Lands and unincorporated private lands in Uintah, Duchesne, and Daggett Counties; BLM lands located in Uintah, Duchesne, and Daggett Counties; and National Park Service lands located in Dinosaur National Monument.
Roosevelt City Council Pursues Economic Development
Roosevelt City continues to explore economic development options. During the June 19th Roosevelt City Council meeting, economic growth was a major theme of discussion. “The council heard several presentations from agencies who work with municipalities to secure federal grant dollars and funding for community redevelopment,” shares the Roosevelt Bulletin.
Ballots Must Be Postmarked Today; Primary Election on Tuesday
Despite some hiccups, Primary Election ballots made it into the hands of voters over the last week. Ballots must be postmarked by today, June 25th, to be counted in the election. If you’re at all concerned about your ballot receiving a postmark in time today, ballots can be hand delivered to voting locations and must be delivered by 8:00pm on Tuesday.
