Provisional Drug Task Force Makes 33 Arrests in Sweetwater County

The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Narcotics and Arrest Group has stayed busy on an operation that resulted in dozens of drug arrests. “Earlier this year,” shares Sheriff Mike Lowell, “the SNAAG unit came to me with a proposal for a provisional drug task force operation – one that would employ a coordinated strategy among all the law enforcement agencies in Sweetwater County for a set period of time.” The campaign has been known as ‘Operation Smack’ and resulted in 33 drug arrests. Most of the cases involved Methamphetamine, though possession and trafficking of other drugs was also included. Agencies that assisted on the arrests include Rock Springs Police Department, Green River Police Department, the Division of Criminal Investigation, and Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Uintah County Says Farewell to K-9 Officer ‘Jax’

Uintah County has bid farewell to one of the county’s narcotics and patrol K-9 officers. “Jax, who recently turned 8-years-old, was recently diagnosed with a medical condition concerning his hips and any further patrol or narcotics training or work could cause him permanent disability,” shares Sheriff Vance Norton.

Committee on Natural Resources Hosting Field Hearing in Roosevelt

The Committee on Natural Resources is holding field hearings in Utah and the Uintah Basin is among the stops this week. A field hearing titled ‘Energy and Education: What’s the Connection?’ is being held in Roosevelt on Wednesday, August 28th, at 2:00pm at Union High School. The hearing is aimed at reviewing the challenges and avenues to encourage greater development of federal lands in order to provide resources for states and, in turn, education services.

Dollar Ridge Fire Radio-Thon Fundraiser and Weekend Events a Success

The combined efforts of a long list of individuals and sponsors made something amazing happen this weekend, all to benefit Uintah Basin residents who are trying to rebuild since the Dollar Ridge Fire destroyed their homes and property. The two-day Dollar Ridge Fire-Aid Fair kicked off on Friday afternoon with a Radio-thon broadcast on Eagle Country 105.5 KLCY and streamed by Channel V6.

Browns Park Swinging Bridge Reopens

After a long wait, the Browns Park Swinging Bridge has reopened. Construction on the swinging bridge started last spring. Multiple entities helped to fund the repairs including the state of Colorado and contributions from the BLM, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, and the 7 County Infrastructure Coalition, among others.

Roosevelt City Council met on Tuesday taking action on several items of business. The Council approved $235,000 dollars in grant funding to go toward planning runway renovations at the Roosevelt Municipal Airport, shares the Roosevelt Bulletin. The total project cost is approximately $3.5 million dollars.
