Fatal Highway 40 Crash Near Split Mountain Truck Center

A Colorado man has passed away after a two vehicle crash on Highway 40 near the Split Mountain Truck Center in Uintah County. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident took place on Sunday at Mile Post 152 on Highway 40 at 3:21pm. A 1993 blue Chevy pickup was traveling westbound while a 2014 Ford Focus was traveling eastbound.

Crash Near Remember the Maine Park

Some travelers were concerned yesterday to see what appeared to be an abandoned crashed car on the side of the road up Dry Fork Canyon. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there was a crash just before 5:00 pm on Tuesday near Remember the Maine Park.

Mesa County Predators Arrested After Sting

Ten individuals were arrested after an undercover internet sex predator operation that covered western Colorado. According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, the three day operation was a joint effort between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, working to locate child sex predators.

UDOT Issues Weather Warning

The Utah Department of Transportation has issued a weather warning for across the state saying that winter will be making its return as a strong spring storm will impact Utah roads through Thursday. The Wasatch Front mountains are expected to get snow and high caution is urged for those planning to travel Highway 40 west into Wasatch County.

Vernal Chamber Recognizes Humanitarian Efforts of Vernal Christian Church

The Public Relations Committee of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce recognized the Vernal Christian Church and its members for their humanitarian efforts during a recent Chamber luncheon. After the major earthquake in Haiti in 2010, the Vernal Christian Church determined to do something to help those people and in the last 6 years have made 7 service trips there where over half of the population lives in severe poverty.

Students Compete Well at State Science Fair

Students from the middle schools across the Uintah School District truly represented the Basin well at the state science fair. The students received a combined 37 awards/recognitions as they competed at the Ritchey State Science and Engineering Fair at Weber State University. There was twenty-two Honorable Mentions and six Excellent Mentions.

Craig Mother Faces Charge For Son’s Tragic Death

Charges have been filed against the mother of the toddler boy who died in a house fire on Christmas Eve in Craig. According to a report from the Craig Daily Press, 26-year-old Vanessa Jenkins was arrested on April 3rd on the charge of Child Abuse Negligently Causing Death. According to the arrest warrant affidavit shared in the article, police responded to the home at 10:30am on Christmas Eve to find Jenkins outside the home yelling that her child was still inside.

Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office Reports Critical Incident

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release on Sunday of a critical incident that took place at about 2am that day. According to the release, two sheriff’s deputies and two Roosevelt police officers responded to a call of domestic violence at a home near 500 East and 5000 South in Roosevelt where they were told the suspect had a gun.
