Mac Attack Derby Final Results

Flaming Gorge held a new fishing derby called The Mac Attack Derby over the weekend. The local fisheries have been emphasizing the need to clear out the abundance of smaller fish to help the larger ones to thrive. The two man team derby was designed to aid that problem. Being 100% non-profit, all fees from anglers went towards the prizes.

Moon Lake Scholarship Conference

Each year, Moon Lake Electric sponsors high school juniors to attend a youth conference where they will learn more about cooperation, communication, and leadership. Over the week of July 8th – July 12th, these students will have the opportunity to participate in games and speaker sessions designed to foster these behaviors at Snow College’s campus in Ephraim.

Ute Plaza Land Returned to Ute Indian Tribe Trust Status

The Ute Indian Tribe distributed a news release on Monday stating that 40 acres of land at Ute Plaza has been restored to Trust Status. According to the release, a notice of determination was issued on March 21st by the Acting Superintendent, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the U.S. Department of the Interior. This was to “approve the fee-to-trust application to acquire real property in trust for the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation.” The property is known publicly as the Ute Plaza and is a former Indian allotment of about 40 acres.

Steinaker Dam Construction Report

What started four years ago as reported landside around Steinaker Dam has become a full on project to fix the problem. Through the efforts of the Bureau of Reclamation, the Uintah Water Conservancy District, and the Weeminuche Construction Authority (WCA) the dam has been hitting all the checkpoints on time.

Missing Duchesne County Man Found Safe

A Duchesne County man who was reported missing in Weber County on Saturday has been found safe. 79-year-old Garold Walker was staying with family in the Century RV Park in West Haven to attend a family member’s graduation when his wife says he told her at approximately 1:30am that he was headed home and he walked out of their camp trailer.

USU Uintah Basin’s Saturday Commencement a Celebration for Graduates

Saturday was an exciting day for the Utah State University Uintah Basin graduating class of 2019. Diplomas for Associate, Bachelor, and Master Degrees were distributed to 131 students in a wide range of fields. “We are all so proud of this graduating class and are looking forward to seeing where their degrees will take them,” said James Y. Taylor, associate vice president at USU Uintah Basin.

Explosion and Fire at Integrated Water Management Outside Duchesne

Thankfully no injuries were reported in an explosion and fire that occurred at Integrated Water Management on Blue Bench outside of Duchesne on Friday morning. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded to the report sometime around 9:50am. State Road 87 was never closed due to the fire but the public was asked to watch for emergency vehicles.
