KNEU 1250There was a strong local turnout for the Utah Legislative Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force Town Hall meeting held in Roosevelt on Tuesday evening. The Roosevelt meeting was the 6th of 8 stops on the task force’s ‘listening tour’ aimed at gathering public input as well as presenting the struggles that the state budget is facing.

Burbot, an illegally introduced freshwater cod, has decimated the smallmouth bass population, it is estimated to be by 90 percent on the Wyoming side.
The victim in a rafting accident that took place on the Green River in Dinosaur National Monument on Saturday has been identified. Officials released that 47-year-old Anthony Vasi, from Newport Beach, California, died in the rafting accident at Triplet Falls, a remote area about 12 miles from the monument’s northern boundary near Gates of Lodore. The Moffat County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the official cause of death was drowning, as suspected. A Tuesday update from Dinosaur National Monument provided further details on Saturday’s tragic accident.
Never Forgotten. Local agencies and individuals have taken to social media over the last week to remember one of the Uintah Basin’s fallen officers. Roosevelt Police Department’s Chief Cecil F. Gurr was killed on July 6th, 2001 while responding to a call at a convenience store in Ballard on a report of a man attempting to force a female acquaintance into a pickup.

Dinosaur National Monument has confirmed that the body of a 47-year-old California man was recovered from the Green River within the Monument following a rafting accident in Triplet Falls. “The rafter was part of a group that included family and friends on a commercial rafting trip,” shares the news release.
The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office reports that they are investigating two new fraud cases involving callers that are running a new scam. The callers identify themselves as being part of either a government agency, such as the IRS, or as representatives of a legitimate company/business.
Roosevelt City is very concerned with the way some members of the community have been treating the new trees that were planted around the walking path at Constitution Park. Of the 100 new trees, two of the saplings have already been snapped in half. The city reminds the public that it has taken the last two months for members of the Roosevelt Rotary Club and Strata Networks to get all those trees planted.
A single vehicle accident on Idaho’s Highway 30 near Soda Springs claimed the life of a Roosevelt man early Friday morning. According to Idaho State Police, the fatal crash took place on July 5th at approximately 1:59am.
Officers were unable to apprehend the individual behind the wheel of a high speed chase that started in Vernal on July 2nd. Posts began showing up on social media of a high speed chase on Tuesday around 5:00 pm alerting drivers to be safe on the roads. Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Brett Gehring confirmed on Wednesday that there had been a high speed chase.
