Halloween Events This Weekend in the Uintah Basin

Even though Halloween isn’t until next week there are plenty of activities this weekend for your inner ghoul. The Vernal Christian Church is hosting the 5th Annual Community Harvest Party. Free to the community it will be held Friday, October 25th from 6:30pm to 8pm. Wal-mart will have their 2nd annual Trick or Treat Walk on Friday from 2pm-3pm.

Roosevelt City Manager Ryan Snow Tenders Resignation

On Tuesday, Roosevelt City Manager Ryan Snow announced his resignation from his position. Snow plans to help wrap things up through the January City Council meeting and until a new city manager is found. In his letter of resignation addressed to the City Council, Staff, and Roosevelt Community, Snow shared: “The staff and I have worked to reduce costs, increase revenue, and find creative ways to make both financial and infrastructure improvements.

Ex-Teacher Arrested in Vernal for Sex With Student

An ex-Uintah High School teacher who was terminated in 2016 was arrested on Wednesday after new information was provided to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office. 33-year-old Rodd Adam Repsher was booked into Uintah County Jail for investigation of 6 counts of unlawful sexual activity with a 16 or 17-year-old. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s detective Jason Turnbow, the high school’s resource officer, was informed on October 11th, 2016 that another teacher had found Repsher alone in his classroom pressed up against a 16-year-old student.

Uintah County Cattlemen Association Offering Reward

Livestock killings are making headlines around the state after a family in Central Utah came home to find two of their Texas Longhorn bulls shot and killed while they were gone. Unfortunately, this story is far from being an isolated incident. In fact, Ritchie Anderson, President of the Uintah County Cattlemen Association, shares that there have been recent incidents of people killing or damaging livestock in the Book Cliffs, on Diamond Mountain, and possibly in the Farm Creek area.

County Unemployment Rates Continue Downward Trend

Unemployment rates in the Uintah Basin have continued their downward trend and are nearing the national average. According to the newest data from the Department of Workforce Services, Uintah County unemployment registered at 3.7 percent, down from 4.7 percent one year ago. Duchesne County unemployment dropped to 3.5 percent, down from 4.7 percent one year prior.

‘Drug Take Back’ Events Around the Basin This Saturday

National Drug Take Back Day is coming this Saturday. It is the perfect opportunity to safely dispose of unused pills or patches. Last fall, Americans turned in almost 469 tons of prescription drugs. Take Back events have happened 17 times and have collectively lead to approximately 5,900 tons of pills returned.

Successful Search and Rescue Operation in Rio Blanco County

Much like northeastern Utah, many are enjoying time hunting in neighboring Colorado mountains. On Saturday the 19th, a hunter who was part of a camp in Rio Blanco County at Ripple Creek flagged down a Deputy for help, reporting that a 78-year-old male with dementia had walked away from camp in the early morning hours without any shoes or a hunting rifle and with no provisions.
