KNEU 1250TriCounty Health Educator Daniel Jackson visited the KLCY studio this week to talk about asthma health and something unexpected that happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though contrary to what was expected, people with asthma who got COVID-19 did not prove to be at increased risk of severe illness or complications as compared to other people.
There are over 40 inspection stations located at various waterbodies and along highways throughout Utah including in the Uintah Basin. During the 2020 Pioneer Day weekend, 19,094 quagga mussels inspections were performed statewide, and 453 boats were decontaminated.

Ashley National Forest experienced multiple landslides last week over the evening of July 22nd when landslides “impacted infrastructure within the Rock Creek and Lake Fork drainages of Ashley National Forest.
The Utah Department of Transportation provided an update on work underway on Highway 40: Starting July 26th, UDOT will be resurfacing Main Street in Vernal from 700 West to 500 East. This work will include painting, installing road messages and is expected to take up to four weeks to complete.

Rifle Police Department is encouraging all to beware of ongoing scams in the region. “Several residents of Rifle have been contacted by unknown parties claiming to have kidnapped a family member and demanding money for release,” shares Rifle PD.
We all know that seat belts save lives but Utah Highway Patrol is seeing an increase in fatalities in car crashes involving unbuckled travelers from other states. According to a Utah DPS press release, between 2017 and 2020, there were 78 deaths on Utah highways involving unbuckled people traveling from another state.
The Kids for Kwak Benefit Fundraiser happening this Saturday is all about family fun and showing support for a beloved local pediatrician that has had a truly devastating year. Dr. Daniel Kwak suffered several catastrophic strokes due to complications from COVID-19 and remains paralyzed on his left side and suffers from blindness.

In a review of the success of the Independence Day Block Party, the Vernal Chamber shared that over 2,500 people gathered on July 2nd in downtown Vernal to celebrate and unite with an evening of great entertainment.
