KNEU 1250The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is offering only two upcoming free pesticide waste collection events in the state of Uuah and the Uintah Basin is one of the stops. UDAF will be in Green River and Roosevelt this October.
This weekend is the perfect time to get outside and look to the sky! The annual Dinah “SOAR” Days Hot Air Balloon Festival is this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and the event will be bigger and better than ever before. The Festival began in 2018 and was a huge success, even with weather issues that grounded many of the balloons.
The danger of drought for wildlife is very real and wildlife officials are doing what they can to help the vulnerable get through it. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources shares that their biologists and other partners installed 16 new water guzzlers including the rebuilding of a “mega” guzzler in the summer range area of the Book Cliffs to help provide water for wildlife and other animals during the drought.
Fire restrictions on the Ashley National Forest are officially lifted as of midnight on August 20th. When restrictions were announced, the public was promised conditions would be monitored and restrictions lifted as soon as it was considered safe.
The new manager of the Vernal Regional Airport, Ken Campbell, provided an airport update at the Vernal Chamber luncheon last week. Campbell had a career in the Air Force before taking the position in Vernal. He emphasized that Vernal has a fabulous runway.

Free school meals will continue in the Uintah School District. Even though school meals will be free through June 30th, the district is asking parents/guardians to complete the free/reduced lunch application. Some types of school and community funding are based on the number of students who qualify for free/reduced lunch due to household income or participation in other state and federal programs.
