A trailblazing athlete will be inducted into the Uintah High School Athletics Hall of Fame during a ceremony before the Uintah homecoming football game on September 11th at Coach Belcher Stadium. The Uintah High Athletics Hall of Fame Committee selected Candace Workman Triggas from a field of exceptional nominees for the induction. She found success in wrestling from a young age and in 2008, Candace made history by becoming the first female to advance to the UHSAA State Wrestling Finals more than a decade before girls wrestling would be sanctioned as a high school sport in Utah. Her success continued and after graduating from Uintah High in 2009, she received the prestigious BJ Stupak Olympic Scholarship and competed as a full-time resident athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center from 2009 to 2016. She became a University National Champion in 2011 and 2013, earned the title of U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifier Champion in 2012, placed 4th at the 2013 World Team Trials and U.S. Open National Championships, 7th at the 2015 Senior Nationals, and 4th at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in 2016. In 2017, Candace returned to Vernal and began coaching Uintah Wrestling. In 2019 and 2023, Candace coached the USA Wrestling Cadet Women's Pan Am Teams, bringing home gold team titles both years. Congratulations to Candace Workman Triggas on this much deserved honor.
