Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office is seeing a trend with lowering water levels in Flaming Gorge and are asking the public to be aware. “Recently announced increases in the amount of water released from Flaming Gorge Reservoir means that water levels are expected to drop between four to six feet from current levels over the next three months,” shares the Sheriff’s Office.

DWR Reminders of Drought Impacts

The Division of Wildlife Resources are continuing to remind the public of issues brought on by the drought. “Drought impacts fish by reducing the amount of water available in lakes, reservoirs and streams,” shares the DWR. “Smaller amounts of water heat up more quickly and reach higher temperatures, which is problematic for fish because warm water holds less oxygen than colder water.

Wildfires and Mudslides in Western Colorado

It’s been a nerve wracking few days in western Colorado dealing with wildfires and mudslides. On Monday at about 11am, a report was called in of smoke spotted off of Highway 13 about 19 miles south of Meeker in Rio Blanco County.
