Two Bears Visit Fort Duchesne During The Weekend’s Fort Duchesne Bear Dance

Fort Duchesne had some very special visitors during the Fort Duchesne Bear Dance celebration over the weekend. Ute Tribe Emergency Management announced on Sunday that two bears were reported in the Fort Duchesne area and all were asked to be aware, use caution, and not approach the bears. The Fort Duchesne Bear Dance is held every year in May and celebrates the arrival of spring and the renewal of the human spirit. The bear is sacred and revered in the Ute tradition so many tribal members shared on social media that they welcomed the bears’ visit. Ute Tribe Emergency Management shared on Sunday that Fish and Wildlife officials were on the scene working to relocate the bears. No update was provided as of early Monday morning.
