Where will you be enjoying World Migratory Bird Day this Saturday, May 9th? The Division of Wildlife Resources has shared their recommended locations for those wanting to see a variety of birds during the annual migrations in northeastern Utah. Ouray National Wildlife Refuge is a prime location and offers a self-guided 9-mile automobile tour that provides a great opportunity to view several different habitats and birds, especially from the observation tower. Pelican Lake has a large diversity of waterfowl and migratory songbirds. Red Canyon Overlook near Flaming Gorge offers an opportunity to see some high-elevation birds. Stewart Lake Waterfowl Management Area and mountain reservoirs like Big Sandwash, Matt Warner, Red Fleet and Steinaker offer a variety of habitats and therefore a variety of birds to see.
