An Eighth District Court judge has been named among the nominees for the Utah Supreme Court. The State of Utah announced on Thursday that the Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission selected nominees for two vacancies on the Utah Supreme Court that were created by the Legislature during the 2026 Legislative Session. Eighth District Court Judge Samuel Chiara is among the nominees listed. The deadline for written comments is May 10th at noon. After reviewing the public comments, the Nominating Commission may request further information or conduct an investigation of the nominees. Written comments can be submitted to the Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission at judicialvacancies@utah.gov. After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Gov. Spencer J. Cox, who will have 30 days to make the appointments. Gov. Cox’s appointees are subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
