It's been a tough two months for house fires in the Uintah Basin with half a dozen or more families displaced after their homes were a total loss. Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymonds shares that the cause of the most recent fire remains unknown but some others last month were related to electrical issues.

Uinta Basin Railway Draft EIS Public Comment Period Again Extended
The public comment period has been extended once again for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Uinta Basin Railway. The Draft EIS analyzes the potential environmental impacts of the Seven County Infrastructure Coalition rail proposal.
Tri-County Area COVID-19 Transmission Level Update (1/28/21 – 2/3/21)
The TriCounty Health District COVID-19 Transmission Index Levels reports Uintah County and Duchesne County at the High Transmission Level and Daggett County at the Low Transmission Level. According to Thursday’s press release, Uintah County’s 7-day average percent positivity was 16 percent and there were 157 cases in the past 14 days.
Northwest Colorado Sees Decrease in Fatal Vehicle Crashes
2020 showed a significant decrease in fatal vehicle crashes in northwest Colorado which showed roads were far safer than most other areas across the state. According to Colorado State Patrol, the District 4 region (which includes Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Routt Counties) was over 25 percent safer than in 2019.

100 Mile Colorado Car Chase Ends in Moffat County
The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office with the help of state troopers were able to successfully stop a car that had been reported stolen and was then involved in a hundred mile chase on Monday. The car was stolen in Colorado’s Summit County with the chase starting in Eagle County after Vail police tried to stop the car.

Name recommendations to fill the Uintah County Attorney position have been delivered to the Uintah County Commission. Uintah County Republican Party Central Committee Chairman Brian Gorum reports that the names delivered to the Commission are Loren Anderson, Arek Butler, and Jaymon Thomas.
