The Uintah County Library has received approval to do away with late fines, meaning that there will no longer be overdue fees. Ahead of the big transition, residents are asked to stop by the library and clear up accounts. The library has three ways in which you can clear all fines. First, you can always pay all your fines.

Flaming Gorge Fish Derby Results

The Flaming Gorge Fish Derby took place over the weekend and the winners are in. Winner of the Lake Trout was Jerry Nelson at 43 inches. The Rainbow Trout winner was Ralph Maccione with the weight of 3.62 pounds and length of 21 inches. The Smallmouth Bass winner was Dusty Lym with the weight 4.48 pounds and the length of 19.25 inches. The Kokanee Salmon winner was Eric Jones weight of 3.42 pounds and the length of 21.875 inches. The winner of the Brown Trout category was Blain Rushton with the weight of 4.54 pounds and the length 23.75 inches. Kraig Jackson won the Catfish with the weight of 13.78 pounds and the length of 38.5 inches. The youth winner was Colby Easton who caught a bass at 3.50 pound and length of 18 inches. Team 299 took first in pup lake trout by catching 70 fishes with a combined weight of 150.12 pounds. The largest fish of the derby was caught by Rachel Ke at the weight of 6.3 pounds and 24.5 inches in length. The derby gave away over $95,000 in cash and prizes.

USU Uintah Basin Partners with Local Industry to Work on Air Quality

The Uintah Basin has been dealing with ozone-forming emissions but luckily we have several organizations that are working to solve this problem. Utah State University’s Bingham Research Center has teamed up with several local oil and gas industry partners. A USU press release shares that it has been a voluntary effort of both USU and industry to try to mitigate ozone impacts while minimizing costs to industry.

Uintah County Commissioners Considering Quarter-Cent Sales Tax Increase

Uintah County Commissioners are considering the possibility of increasing the sales tax countywide by one-quarter center — that’s one cent for every $4 dollars spent. According to a press release from the Uintah County Commission, the money would help fund transportation needs if approved. SB 136 was passed by Utah Legislature in 2018, allowing counties to enact a 0.25 percent local option sales tax to fund transportation needs, such as BTA, roads, and parking.

Basin Couple in Tragic Helicopter Crash; Family Releases Statement

A well known and well loved Uintah County couple have been confirmed as those killed in a helicopter crash in Utah County on Friday. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office shared that the helicopter left Ballard Friday morning and search and rescue crews began their search after family reported it overdue. The crash was located shortly after 6:30pm above Alpine in Utah County and both on board had been killed.

How do you celebrate 75 years of service to others? By having a day of service. Uintah Basin Healthcare had the first annual service day on Tuesday as the kick off to the 75th anniversary of the health group. The hospital had the goal to see if they could get 75 employees to volunteer their time to the community. The employees stepped up in a big way. 250 of the 700 took action.

DWR: Inspection Stations Opening This Weekend, All With Watercraft Must Stop

The spread of quagga and zebra mussels are treated as a serious matter in Utah and the Division of Wildlife Resources wants travelers to know that inspection stations will be open this weekend and anyone with a watercraft are required to stop. A watercraft includes motorboats, sailboats, jet skis, wave runners, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trailers and vehicles that go into the water on a boat ramp, as well as other personal watercraft.

UBYCO Says Farewell to Graduating Seniors

The final concert and wrap up of season 3 for the Utah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra has been emotionally charged for many reasons. Seniors Cutler Rust, Lucy Flake, Luna Rosal, Dante Zubel, Abby Nakai, Liberty Bennion, Spencer Embleton, and Zac Carlton played their final concert earlier this month with the group, a concert that was added to the schedule at the request of the seniors as one last hurrah.
