Vernal Theater: LIVE’s production of ‘Wait Until Dark’ opens tonight and those that have had a sneak preview are raving about the show. Production Director Carrie Chapman says the show has real depth and is a true thriller. “Wait Until Dark is a dark show both figuratively and literally,” shares Chapman. “We have con men searching for drugs and a blind woman who is trying to keep her wits about her through the danger. It’s really a story of resilience through darkness.” The show includes a full theater black out so the audience is left to use their remaining senses to follow what is happening, just like the lead character. McKenna Christiansen, who plays the lead Suzy Hendrix, rehearsed most scenes with either her eyes closed or with a blindfold on and in the show she wears contacts that partially obstruct her vision. Rehearsing has delivered bumps and bruises for much of the cast but the end product has made it all worth it. “I know some people might be weary that we are doing such a dark show,” says Chapman, “but I really believe that it is in our darkest moments that we find our light. I’m thrilled to have the audience go on this journey and see what comes up inside each of them as they have to face some darkness.” The show opens tonight and runs select nights through November 3rd.
